What are ‘estate-teas’ anyway? Broadly speaking, they can be classified into two groups: single-estates and estate-blends.
Single estate teas: Perhaps the most distinctive of all teas, a single estate tea is an unblended product of a specific estate. More focused more intimate more compelling yet as with wine the slightest modulations of weather can result in a vintage that maybe either superb or indifferent even when produced on the same estate. Our master tasters spend months each season visiting estates to search for those rare appellations where leaf and climate synergize to produce the most powerful statements of a varietal character. Each tea is carefully selected to represent the pick of the season and each lot individually tasted compared and evaluated.
Estate blends: Created for the discerning consumer who subscribes to the single estate ethos, estate blends are harmonious combinations of teas from two or more estates. What distinguish these blends from the ordinary are their unique estate signatures.
Blended and flavoured teas: Blended and flavoured teas are created to appeal to a broader audience. Produced by combining varieties of processed leaf, the objective is to simulate a particular flavour. Many blends are well-rounded and appealing. Good generic blends are predictable and consistent.
